The solicitation for July's issue of BATMAN: STREETS OF GOTHAM has some very, very interesting news about what's next for Harvey, particularly considering his current involvement in the MANHUNTER back-up feature. I've been pissed about that storyline for months now, but this news may significantly alter my complaints, and is absolutely piquing my interest either way.

The anticipated sequel to HEART OF HUSH is here... yadda yadda yadda, skipping ahead...
And in the new Two-Face co-feature (!!!), writer Ivan Brandon picks up where the trial of Two-Face left off in the Manhunter co-feature! Despite his innocence, Two-Face is a man on the run, and discovers that even when he thinks he has nothing left to lose, he hasn’t quite hit rock bottom!
...
WELL now!
WELL now!
Now, I'm assuming that this isn't just a stand-alone story, but is rather a multi-part dealie. If so, that's a first for the character, and a rarity for villains in general. Very few of them ever get headlined in their own stories outside of the odd graphic novel, or one-shot in stuff like JOKER'S ASYLUM. Certainly, he's the first villain to star in DC's current co-feature project, so that's something right there. But it raises the question of just how villainous he'll actually be if he's the protagonist!
Because the thing I've been hating about the MANHUNTER story arc is how Two-Face is pretty well expressly evil there. At least, that's how Kate Spencer herself read the character early on, and Andreyoko's subsequent storyline has done absolutely nothing to dissuade her assessment. Throughout the story, Harvey's been in full-blown ROBIN: YEAR ONE grinning villain mode, a remorseless sociopath who manipulates the sympathy of others by feigning to have any good left in him.
His entire purpose, it seemed to me, was to provide a challenge for Kate to overcome in the courtroom (so the new DA to take down the insane old DA) and for Manhunter to overcome in the streets. The cliffhanger of last issue seemed to seal my fears and disgust that this is an irredeemable monster of a Two-Face.
But now... well shit, was Andreyoko throwing a curve ball all along? Is he actually innocent of that latest murder? Will Kate actually get to meet Harvey's good side (and furthermore, will she care? I doubt it)?
Have any of you been reading MANHUNTER? If so, what do you think? How've you been enjoying the storyline in general? Personally, I could never get into MANHUNTER in the first place. I read the first two volumes and never gained any interest.
Either way, I'm diverging from the truly big news here: Harvey is starring in his own back-up feature! Has anyone read anything by Ivan Brandon? I know that Ramon Bachs has impressed me in the past, so I can at least endorse the likely quality of the art.
It should go without saying that I have the highest of hopes for this, but lord knows we've seen the character misused in the past. Hopefully this'll be a bold and exciting new step for the character! Most importantly, hopefully it'll just be a darn good story either way!
Also, HI to all the new members who've joined up! Man, now I'm starting to regret not making this an actual community. Well, I look forward to your comments, thoughts, and ideas, all of which are actively encouraged here!
