A Two-Part Introduction
Feb. 4th, 2010 12:53 amWelcome to
about_faces, perhaps the only fanblog dedicated to all things Two-Face, with a special focus on his appearances in DC Comics over the years!
Even though he's a particularly well-regarded character and a favorite "villain" for many discerning fans and creators alike, the actual fandom for Two-Face is virtually nonexistent. At least, the original Two-Face from the comics. As is sadly the case, the film version gets much more attention in fandom, and while I do love Aaron Eckhart's performance in THE DARK KNIGHT (with some major reservations), this is a real shame.
And yet, it's also understandable. Two-Face has been used for many brilliant stories, true, but he's also been misused in a whooooooole lot of crappy ones, often by writers who reduce him to a sneering villain and a one-note gimmick freak. Which, sadly, is how many people only see the character.
I've done my best to spread awareness and appreciation for Harvey over the years at scans_daily--particularly over the past couple months since I've started doing "Two-Face Tuesdays!"--but there's so much geekery that I just can't post at that community. This is a niche passion for a much-liked but much-misunderstood character.
And thus, after much dilly-dallying (and inspired by the likes of
lovedatjoker and
zhinxy), I've finally begun construction on this humble blog. I'm still working on the ideal layout, so things will look rough for awhile. But as for content, you can eventually expect it to include:
--scans from great (and often obscure) Two-Face stories, with commentary by yours truly
--news on the latest neat Harvey-related comics and merchandise
--essays and critical analysis of the character and his relation to the Bat-characters
--exploration on the themes of duality in literature and philosophy
--links to fanfic and fanart of note
--opinion pieces on other Batman rogues: what they represent, what makes them great, and how they could be better used in comics
--and much, much more.
Most importantly, while this is listed as a personal LJ, I'd certainly like
about_faces to feel like a community. As such, discussion, thoughts, ideas, disagreements, and all other manner of positive participation is highly encouraged.
As for who I am... (ala Troy McClure) you might know me from such communities as
scans_daily, as well as my LJ
thehefner. If you do, then you probably know how big a fan I am.
But in case you're not familiar with me--and on the off-chance that you still doubt my dedication--I humbly offer you this blackmail-worthy image of me at age twelve:

That was sent into the Wizard Magazine costume contest. Man, I was robbed.
That's about it from me. I look forward to hearing your own insights over the coming months. Because I believe in Harvey Dent. And hopefully, if you don't already, you will too.
